Rebound Resilience Tester (Schob Pendulum) | Digital

The PolymerTest Rebound Resilience Tester (Schob Pendulum) determines the elasticity and "liveliness" of vulcanized rubber. Upgraded with digital sensors and an automatic electromagnetic release system, it eliminates visual errors common in analog models, delivering precise results (0.5 Joule impact) in accordance with ISO 4662 and ASTM D7121.

Description

Introduction to Rubber Rebound Resilience Tester (Schob Pendulum)

The Rebound Resilience Tester, technically known as the Schob Pendulum, is the standard benchmark for measuring the “liveliness” of rubber. This quantity indicates how much energy a rubber component (such as a tire tread or shoe sole) absorbs and how much it returns after an impact (elasticity).

The model manufactured by Polymer Test replaces outdated analog pointer systems with advanced digital sensors, eliminating visual reading errors and providing results with 0.1% precision.

Operating Mechanism and Smart Features

The device operates based on the potential and kinetic energy of a pendulum. Key features of this digital model include:

  • Automatic Release System: Unlike manual models where the operator’s hand tremor can affect the pendulum release, in this device, the hammer is released via an electromagnet and software command, ensuring 100% repeatability.
  • Measurement Precision: Exact calculation of the rebound angle and its conversion to Rebound % using an internal high-resolution encoder and processor.
  • Standard Hammer Design: Utilizes a spherical hammer with an impact energy of 0.5 Joules and a calibrated center of percussion.

Standard Sample Preparation

To perform this test, you require button-shaped samples with a specific thickness. These samples must be cured and prepared using precision molds in an Automatic Laboratory Hot Press (Sheet Maker) to ensure the test results are valid and reliable.

Reference Standards

This machine covers all requirements of the following standards:

  • International Standard ISO 4662 (Rubber, vulcanized or thermoplastic — Determination of rebound resilience).
  • Standard ASTM D7121 and DIN 53512.
