Introduction to Melt Flow Index (MFI) Tester

The Melt Flow Index Tester (also known as a Plastometer) is the global benchmark for measuring the flowability and viscosity of molten polymers. This instrument is an essential tool for quality control of incoming raw materials (granules) and final products in pipe manufacturing, packaging, and masterbatch industries.

Unlike conventional models in the market, the model manufactured by Polymer Test utilizes an advanced Two-Zone Heating System. This critical feature ensures that the temperature at both the top and bottom of the cylinder is perfectly uniform, effectively eliminating thermal gradient errors.

Technical Features and Control System

Precision in MFI testing relies heavily on temperature stability and cutting timing. The key features of this device include:

• Precise Temperature Control: Utilizes two separate heating elements and thermocouples with PID controllers, guaranteeing temperature stability with a resolution of 0.1°C up to 350°C.
• Auto Cutter: Equipped with a precise timer with 0.01-second resolution to cut samples at standard intervals automatically, removing human error.
• Anti-Wear Die: The die is crafted from Tungsten Carbide, offering wear resistance and dimensional stability tens of times greater than ordinary steel.

Accessories and User Experience

This device is delivered as a complete laboratory package. A 4.3-inch color touchscreen provides an easy-to-use interface for the operator to monitor all parameters. Included accessories:

Important Technical Note: The presence of moisture in granules causes bubbles and significant errors in the MFI number. We strongly recommend drying samples thoroughly in a Digital Laboratory Oven (Forced Air Circulation) before testing.
